Evidence for anisotropic quenching in massive galaxy clusters at z ≈ 0.5

چکیده

A recent observational result finds that the quenching of satellites in groups at $z=0.08$ has an angular dependence relative to semi-major axis central galaxy. This observation is described as `anisotropic quenching' or `angular conformity'. In this paper I study variation colour a mass limited sample satellite galaxies their angle from major Brightest Cluster Galaxy CLASH clusters up $z\sim0.5$, 4 Gyr further lookback time. The same found: close are more quenched than those along minor axis. also find star-forming tend avoid region +/-45 degrees signal thought be driven by AGN outflows axis, reducing density intergalactic medium and thus strength ram pressure. Here will discuss potential alternative mechanisms. Finally, note advent Legacy Survey Space Time (LSST) Euclid surveys allow for detailed phenomenon its evolution.

20 05 Supernova Rates in Galaxy Clusters

Measurements of SN rates in different environments and redshifts can shed light on the nature of SN-Ia progenitors, star formation history, and chemical enrichment history. I summarize some recent work by our group in this area, and discuss the implications. The current evidence favors production of most of the iron in the ICM (and perhaps everywhere) by core-collapse SNe, rather than SNe-Ia. T...

The Dynamical State of Massive Galaxy Clusters

We study the mass distribution of a sample of 24 X-ray bright Abell clusters through weak gravitational lensing. This method is independent of the dynamical state of the galaxy cluster. Hence, by comparing dynamical and lensing mass estimators, we can access the dynamical state of these clusters. We have found that clusters with ICM temperatures above 8 keV show strong deviations from the relax...

Gravitational Quenching in Massive Galaxies and Clusters by Clumpy Accretion

We consider a simple gravitational-heating mechanism for the long-term quenching of cooling flows and star formation in massive dark-matter haloes hosting elliptical galaxies and clusters. The virial shock heating in haloes > 10M⊙ triggers natural quenching in 10M⊙ haloes (Birnboim et al. 2007). Analytic estimates and simple simulations argue that the long-term quenching in haloes > Mmin ∼ 7×10...

Finding Galaxy Clusters at

Galaxy clusters are the most massive collapsed systems in the Universe. As such, they are extremely important as both cosmological probes and as laboratories for studying galaxy evolution in dense environments. In this paper, we suggest an eecient technique for selecting galaxy clusters from a two-colour, wide-eld survey. We demonstrate a test of this new technique on photometric data from a re...

Massive galaxy clusters as gravitational telescopes for distant supernovae

We investigate the potential of using massive clusters as gravitational telescopes for searches and studies of supernovae of Type Ia and Type II in optical and near-infrared bands at central wavelengths in the interval 0.8-1.25 μm. Using high-redshift supernova rates derived from the measured star formation rate, we find the most interesting effects for the detection of core-collapse SNe in sea...
